Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I pay DIF fees with a debit or credit card?
A: At present, all Development Impact Fees must be paid in person by cash or check at the District office. Debit and credit card payments are not currently accepted.
Q: Are Development Impact Fees assessed on Auxiliary Dwelling Units (ADUs)?
A: Auxiliary Dwelling Units (ADUs) that are less than 750 square feet are exempt from Development Impact Fees in accordance with State code. ADUs that exceed this size may be subject to DIF.
Q: Are there any exemptions to the DIF requirements?
A: Some projects may qualify for an exemption. District staff will determine exemption eligibility after reviewing the full scope of the proposed project. Exemptions are not granted automatically.
Q: Am I responsible for DIF fees for an unpermitted building or a building that was previously fee‑exempt but has a change in occupancy?
A: Yes. Unpermitted buildings may be subject to enforcement actions by the County Building Department. Additionally, if a building that was previously fee‑exempt undergoes a change in occupancy type, the applicable Development Impact Fee must be paid as part of the permitting process.
